This past super bowl weekend, we were having the little cousins over to watch the game and just relax. I really wanted to update a few things around the house. Since we are preparing for a back yard renovation, I knew I had to use things we already owned to make our home actually start to feel like a cozy and grown up space. One of the areas I wanted to make a small change to, was the open shelving in our kitchen. ( I know I haven’t posted a true before and after of our kitchen but I will soon )
This is how the shelves looked before – not really organized and not too purposely styled. I felt like they needed more texture and less glass.
I know, the clutter on the counter top and microwave annoy me too, ha!
I did I little Pinterest searching and also stopped by a few my favorite designer blogs to get a little inspiration for styling ( Studio McGee has some great advice about styling shelves ). I wanted to place items that we actually use often but don’t have to use daily so the shelves could remain neat.
Here is what they look like now … Keep in my mind, I used items we already owned around the house.
I took off the mismatched mule mugs, added a large book with smaller book on top, added a vase with succlents and kept the copper pan. That pan holds a special place in our hearts – it’s from a family member who passed away a few years ago.
On the bottom shelf, we kept the canisters ( I may grab a larger one at some point ), added white bowls, a decanter and kept some wine glasses.
Not a huge difference but a little more put together. I’m sure I will change it again soon but for now, it looks a little adult-ish…
What would I change eventually?
-a plant pot that’s not as high but with plants still very visible
-add one more book ( I can actually do that now- be right back…)
-replace the stemless glasses with long stem glasses
What would you suggest? Leave a comment and let me know!
