Once I became pregnant with our second child, Mike and I decided that it was time to sell our small condo. We recently ( okay, like two years ago ) bought a single family home with a yard and a little more space than we currently had. That condo was our first purchase together and Dex’s first home, so it was a little bittersweet to sell but we are so happy we did. My giant belly needed more space anyway 🙂
If you follow us over on Instagram, you may have seen that we started a page dedicated to the renovation of our new home. If you haven’t seen it yet, just hop on over to @homesweetbrum and check out our progress so far. I am just now adding this to our blog so please bare with me as I add updates slowly ( very slowly).
When we were in the middle of escrow on our new home, I was literally in the hospital giving birth to Reed, so needless to say taking tons of before pictures didn’t really happen. Sooo we’ll just have to start a little bit after demo….
Here are some deets:
We purchased a 3 bed, 1 bath ( yikes ) 1951 ranch style home . We live in Southern California and our neighborhood isn’t known for giant houses so we knew we had to be a bit creative with our space. It was / is a total fixer and many elements were original to the home, like the stainless steel kitchen counter tops- yea, I know right?!
Starting demo on the kitchen with my Brother in law’s help
There was a pretty low hanging pony wall and that
hideous gorgeous wall paper covering years of other horrible gorgeous wall paper.
One of the coolest things? We actually uncovered great original hardwood floors under the laminate- SCORE! We had them refinished and we are so happy with the results. Of course I’ll save that for a future post.
( We have tons more updates since taking these picture, including a brand new kitchen – that was totally not a DIY project- we aren’t THAT good, haha ).
